Brits parlementslid Huw Irranca-Davies heeft Bechterew en bracht het onderwerp ook ter sprake in The House of Commons (in februari 2013). Hij presenteerde er een “manifesto voor Bechterew”, met o.m. een pleidooi voor meer onderzoek, meer geld voor anti-tnf behandeling, en het gebruik van MRI voor diagnose.

“He laid out a ‘Manifesto for AS’ including early diagnosis, clinical standards for treatment and raising awareness. He called for continuing support for research and for funding for Anti-TNF treatments, and the increased use of MRI instead of X-rays for diagnosis.”

Hij zegt hoe het jaren geduurd heeft voor hij een diagnose kreeg en vanalles geprobeerd had tegen de pijn, zelfs exotische paddenstoelen uit Rusland.
